Wedding Colors – Red and Blue Revisited

I recently spoke to a bride about her upcoming wedding plans and during the conversation her wedding colors came up. While she loves blue and envisions her bridesmaids decked out in a fabulous royal number, her husband is partial to red and definitely wants it included in the wedding. So… they are going with red and blue.

Now, I have to admit, red and blue together immediately makes me think Fourth of July. Or a big political rally. Or even my alma mater (go Mustangs!), but it definitely does not make me think wedding. Skeptical, I did a little online research and found some amazing examples of how red and blue can really be a nice palette when the blue shade is tweaked from royal to a darker navy or brighter turquoise or teal. Check it out.

So, the navy and red still looks a little patriotic to me. What do you guys think? Is it possible to pull off red and royal blue for a wedding without looking too much like summer picnic?

I agree that red and navy can look a little “God Bless America!”, (especially with the white wedding dress), but what if you combined the 3 colours and use the red and turquoise or aqua with accents of navy?  It might help combine what the bride wants with a little more depth and class.ReplyCancel
