Are you ready for another blogging bride? We hold a special place in our hearts for Bonnie and Max.. they were the first of three Draper family weddings that we did in a little under two years! We could literally gush over this sweet couple for hours, and their families aren’t too bad either! Meet Bonnie and Max!
Couple: Bonnie and Max
Wedding date: May 3, 2014
Ceremony location: The Ashton Depot
Reception location: The Ashton Depot
Photographer: Devon J. Imagery
Hitched Events: How did you and Max meet?
Bonnie Draper: Max and I met through a mutual friend. I was new to town and got introduced to some people, now close friends. We all went out for a birthday. At one point Max and I were talking. I was thinking to myself, who does this guy think he is. I felt he came across kinda… smug. Little did I know he thought I was snobby. Eventually we ended up building a friendship, which then turned into something more. I think the friendship we built makes for a strong foundation with our marriage.
HE: Tell us about your engagement!
BD: So Max and I had discussed marriage and eventually engagement rings. I knew he was going to ask me to marry him because part of my engagement ring is from his grandmother’s wedding ring, and I helped design my ring. I obviously wasn’t sure when he was going to propose. A little fact about Max is he isn’t a big planner, not like how I plan. So one week he tell me he’s going to take me that following weekend to teach me how to drive his boat (I’d been asking). I ask him are any of our friends coming? He kinda shrugs it off like maybe. We don’t ever go to the lake without our friends. So I start thinking – THIS IS WEIRD, NOT NORMAL, IS THIS IT?? What else does a girl do but call her mom to interrogate her. My mom answers the phone, and the first thing I ask is do I need to look cute for anything next weekend? Silence. My mom didn’t give anything away, but her reaction had me questioning what might be happening soon even more. Max is also telling people at work his plan to propose. Max ended up thinking that by his advanced planning that I already knew about to proposal so he had to change plans fast. I’m headed to my apartment on Friday after work, going to get my weekend bag and dog and head over to Max’s place for the weekend (still thinking about that I should wear, and am I over thinking this?). I open the door to my apartment, looking down at the ground. I see rose petals, and I knew.
HE: So cute.. and a sneak attack! How long was your engagement?
BD: Our engagement was little less than 11 months.
HE: Warning.. adorable pup up ahead!
Need to see more of their engagement photos? Of course you do.. go check them out!
HE: What did you pick first.. the date or the venue?
BD: We had several dates that would work, and picked a dated based off the venue.
HE: Tell us about how the planning process went for you.
BD: Wedding planning was SO much FUN! I want to do it again! I knew exactly what I wanted my wedding to be and look like so for me it was easy.
HE: Bonnie.. we love a bride that can make decisions! What was a must have for your wedding?
BD: My photographer, Devon! As soon as we were engaged I was e-mailing her asking if she was available. She is and always will be AWESOME!
HE: What is your favorite memory from your wedding?
BD: My favorite moment, and I think Max would say the same was the first look. It was so a special moment between us. It also helped relieve some of the anxiety of the day.
HE: Describe your overall experience with your wedding.
BD: Our wedding was the Best. Day. Ever. Everything was perfect.
HE: I mean, honestly.. it was a pretty amazing day! If you could give one piece of advice to a couple in the process of planning their wedding, what would it be?
BD: I’m going to give a few pieces 🙂 Put money into a good photographer and a band. You will have those pictures forever, and you want them to be awesome! A live band brings that something to your wedding to set it over the top – great energy! Write your own vows. Try not to stress out over things because your wedding will be awesome because it’s your special day, and there’s a good chance you won’t remember some of the details because that day is a blur!
Those are some great words of wisdom, Bonnie! We love a great live band.. and Mars Hill Band really knocked it out of the park at your wedding!
