Perhaps I’m just not enough of a romantic, but I’ve always thought Valentine’s Day was a little silly. I mean, shouldn’t you tell the people you love that you love them all the time? And isn’t it really more fun to get flowers on a random I-was-thinking-about-you Tuesday than on February 14? Maybe I’m just a cynic, but the whole idea of Valentine’s Day just seems so commercialized and inauthentic to me. If it were up to me, Hallmark cards, stuffed bears and heart-shaped chocolates would be big sellers all year round.
Even if you buy into the hype of Valentine’s Day, I encourage you to tell the people you love that you love them on random days. Like next Tuesday. And the Tuesday after that.
So, tell me… am I just cynical and unromantic? Or do you agree that it’s a silly holiday?
