Last weekend, the Hitched Events team was at the Trinity River Audubon Center in Dallas for Chelsea and Casey’s awesome wedding. The hot Texas weather took a break for the weekend, and our couple had amazing weather for their outdoor ceremony.
Throughout the reception, I heard several guests commenting about what a neat venue the couple had chosen, and even Dallas natives were surprised that they did not know that the building existed. With that in mind, I thought the Trinity River Audubon Center would be a perfect candidate for our Reception Selection series.
Located in southeast Dallas, Trinity River Audubon Center (TRAC) is a 21,000 sq. ft. educational center surrounded by wetlands and four miles of hiking trails. During the day, the Center offers programs for children and adults, including birding explorations and conservation workshops. TRAC is the first “green” building constructed by the Dallas Parks and Recreation Department to qualify for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, making it a perfect venue choice for brides looking to “go green” for their celebrations. And with the unique architecture, the building makes for some awesome photographs.
The venue has a large event space with floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as outdoor decks, a conference room suitable for the bridal party, and outdoor ceremony locations.
Our bride loved the idea of getting married surrounded by nature, and the Butterfly Garden was a perfect spot for her 150 guests. With the ceremony set up in the round, it created an intimate ceremony, where guests felt like they were sitting in the middle of a field. Away from the busy city, it’s easy to forget you’re in Dallas when sitting in the Butterfly Garden. Check out this picture I snapped on my phone just after the chairs were set up…
With reasonable pricing and the ability to bring in a caterer of your choice (which also means couples can provide their own alcohol, which can be a huge money saver!), Trinity River Audubon Center is a great choice for couples looking to do things a little differently, with a natural, organic vibe.
