Dallas Reception Selection: The Venue at 400 N. Ervay

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of helping Hitched Events couple Sara + Mark tie the knot. Their reception was held at The Venue at 400 N. Ervay, and since it’s a relatively new event space, I thought it would be a perfect addition to our Reception Selection blog series.

The 400 North Ervay building is rich in history. When the building originally opened in 1930, it housed the U.S. Federal Courts System, Revenue Department, Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Agriculture Department. It was the government building for all of Dallas County. Today, the building houses the downtown Dallas Post Office, 78 luxury residences, and The Venue at 400 N. Ervay, which hosts weddings, receptions and other special events.

The Venue has three event spaces – The Grande Hall on the first floor, the Courtroom space and foyer on the building’s third floor, and the outdoor Rooftop Garden.

One of the things I love about the venue is the decor. The rooftop, courtroom and foyer are fabulously appointed with high-end furniture and accessories that can be used for events at no additional cost. And for those that don’t want to use the furniture, much of it can be cleared out to make room for more traditional guest seating.

My absolute favorite part of the venue is the rooftop space. Being in the heart of downtown, the rooftop offers unique views. The rooftop space is also available for ceremonies. With no direct access to restrooms, it’s best for shorter events, such as ceremonies or cocktail hours, as opposed to a full reception. For our wedding last weekend, guests enjoyed the amazing weather on the rooftop for cocktail hour.

The bride and groom’s first dance was on the roof, then guests headed downstairs to enjoy the remainder of the reception in the third floor courtroom space.

The Venue at 400 N. Ervay is certainly a space worth visiting for couples looking for a unique downtown Dallas venue. Although the venue has hosted events with over 200 guests, I think it’s best for a smaller guest list. Our wedding last weekend had 150 guests, and it was a perfect fit for the space.

I can’t wait to see the photos from Anna Routh Photography and video from Lynn Films of Sara + Mark’s wedding at The Venue at 400 N. Ervay. I know they will be absolutely gorgeous!
