Take It From Me: Eat Dinner, Together!

We don’t often hear from the grooms, but we sure do love it when we do! Today’s post is a very special treat. Last week Sara shared her thoughts on the importance of a hiring a videographer. Today we get to hear from her husband, Mark McDow, as he shares his words of wisdom, from the groom’s point of view.

Take it from me, the groom…eat dinner, together.

With our cocktail hour in a completely separate part of the venue, my new wife and I were fortunate enough to have a little time to ourselves before the reception. After all the build-up and busyness of the day, it was great to have a few minutes alone.

Bonus: We also got to eat!

Not only did we get to enjoy the food we had so carefully planned (crab cakes!) while it was still warm, we were able to do so just the two of us, without interruptions. We were in an open space, but it still felt intimate and was a moment just for us.

Since we had already eaten, that meant we were free to enjoy the party and our guests later in the evening. So, if you can swing it, take a few minutes to yourselves at some point in the evening, and be sure to eat.

I love what Mark said here. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the whirlwind of the day and get to the end only to realize you haven’t had a true moment alone with your now betrothed. I would strongly encourage every couple to find a moment after the ceremony to look at each other and take in what just happened. You’re married!
