Top 5 Hitched Events “Firsts” of 2012

As the first week of 2013 comes to an end, I’ve been thinking about all of the new experiences we’ve had this past year at Hitched Events. While every wedding or special event is different, there are usually fairly standard traditions that we see from event to event. We love when couples make their events personal and unique, and when there are truly unique aspects, it often creates some company “firsts” for us. We’ve had several fun firsts, but below are my Top Five Hitched Events “Firsts” of 2012.

1. First time to have a bride wear a black wedding gown

I absolutely love it when a bride isn’t afraid to buck tradition and make a statement with her wedding attire, and our client Monica did just that!

Monica said “I do” on Friday, November 23, 2012 at CityPlace wearing a black lace Mori Lee gown from Mockingbird Bridal Boutique. Monica’s ten bridesmaids each wore a different style champagne colored dress and sassy red shoes of their choice.

While the black wedding gown look is certainly not for everyone, Monica completely and totally rocked it! The non-traditional vibe was completely “her,” and we loved being able to be involved in her planning from start to finish.

2. First bilingual wedding ceremony

Kevin and Vicky tied the knot in front of an international crowd of friends and families on September 15, 2012 at the W Dallas Victory Hotel. With many of the guests coming in from China, a bilingual ceremony was in order.

Their officiant (a close family friend), and I drafted the ceremony, and then the bride translated it into Chinese. Portions of the ceremony were read in both languages, while other sections were read only in English or only in Chinese.

No matter the language, it was easy to see the love in the room as Vicky and Kevin exchanged their vows. Vicky spoke her vows in Chinese and Kevin read his in English, allowing all guests to be a part of the ceremony, regardless of their native tongue.

Being a part of a bilingual wedding celebration was a really neat experience for us, and certainly a company first!

3. First time to close down a city street

Although most of the clients who come to us are looking for help with planning their weddings, we can (and do!) put together the occasional corporate event. On April 29, 2012, we organized the 100th Anniversary Party for Dallas landmark Highland Park Old-Fashioned Soda Fountain (formerly Highland Park Pharmacy).

With a guest list of nearly 250, the store’s uptown location certainly wasn’t large enough to accommodate all the guests, so we erected a tent just outside the store and worked with the City of Dallas to allow us to close Travis Street just south of Knox for a twelve-hour period. From hiring Dallas police officers, renting street closure barricades and cones, and arranging for portable restrooms, the event was certainly complex, and getting approval from the City of Dallas for the street closure was certainly a company first for us.

4. First time to have a son walk his mother down the aisle

Tammie and Jonathan’s wedding on Saturday, May 12 at the W Dallas Victory Hotel was made extra special by the fact that they involved Tammie’s son in the ceremony. Not only did “little Jonathan” escort his mother down the aisle, but he also took part in “family vows” with the couple.

It’s safe to say there was not a dry eye in the house as “little Jonathan” participated in the ceremony with his mother.

While we’ve certainly been a part of weddings where someone other than the Father of the Bride escorts the bride, having the bride’s son do the honors was an awesome first for us.

5. First Hitched Events baby!

O.k… so this one isn’t really event related, but it’s still a company first!

We absolutely love keeping in touch with our former couples about what they’ve been up to since we helped them tie the knot, and sweet Ashley and Nathan are no exception. Married at the Old Red Museum in 2012, they are the parents of our first Hitched Events baby! We couldn’t be more excited for this sweet couple!

Ashley and Nathan Gilbert welcomed their son Nash Bennett into the world on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 10:57 a.m. Weighing in at 7 pounds and 5 oz, little Nash is the first (of I’m sure many to come!) baby of Hitched Events parents!

What an exciting year 2012 was! We can’t wait to see what new things are in store for us in 2013.
