Even though Breast Cancer Awareness month is ending, it’s not too late to make a difference. If you’ve already celebrated your wedding day and have a wedding gown just hanging in your closet, the folks at the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation would love to take it off your hands!
The mission of the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation is to provide an opportunity for metastic breast cancer patients to have a dream or wish fulfilled with their families. We’ve all heard of Make a Wish… take that same concept but for women and men losing their fight against breast cancer. One way the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation raises money to fulfill these wishes is through their Brides Against Breast Cancer Nationwide Tour of Gowns, where brides can shop for wedding gowns at remarkable prices. More than half the gowns presented at each event are new gowns donated directly from designers, manufacturers and bridal retailers. The others are pre-owned gowns donated by brides!
Making Memories is actively seeking 2005 to present day gowns. To make your donation, prepare your gown for shipping by removing the gown from any drycleaner bags or boxes and placing it in a carton just large enough to accommodate the gown. You can fold or even roll the gown if necessary. Include a printed self-addressed stamped envelope, INSIDE your package to ensure a tax-deductible receipt reaches you. This usually takes about 8 to 10 weeks. Although not required, the organization appreciates when they receive an additional $40 donation to cover expenses for preparing your gown for sale. If you can imagine, the $40 cost multiplied by the thousands of dresses Making Memories receives can exceed the cost of granting numerous wishes.
