Wedding Gown Clutch by Cahoots

Months before my wedding, my mom told me that she was having a wedding clutch made for me by Cahoots Handbags. Now, if you don’t know about the ladies behind the Cahoots brand, you need to check them out. Based out of Gainesville, Texas, Cahoots handcrafts bags from vintage textiles. Not only do they have amazing designs out of all types of fabrics — from upholstery to shantung to wool blankets — but they can make custom bags from a unique piece of fabric that has special significance. For my wedding clutch, the fabric of choice was my mom’s wedding gown.

My mom sent her wedding gown (circa 1971) to Cahoots and asked them to make three clutches — one for me, one for my sister and one for herself. Cahoots added a closure button, but everything else on the clutch is from my mom’s original gown — original lace, original fabric, and the small pearls were buttons up the back of my mom’s dress. Take a peek at their handy work:

What makes it even more special is that my mom made her own wedding gown, so the material for my wedding day clutch was run through my mom’s original Singer as she was preparing to marry my dad. Amazing, right? And I love the fact that there are only three of these that exist on the planet.
