Dallas Reception Selection – Hall of State

I absolutely loved my reception venue, but since starting on my mission to see a ton of Dallas venues, I’ve discovered that there were way more options in Dallas for cool event spaces than I realized when I was doing my research from NYC. One spot that I had heard of but didn’t look into was the Hall of State at Fair Park. I made the assumption that it was out of my price range, so when I actually met with the venue manager and learned that it was less than the rental of my reception space, I was completely floored. If you are looking for an event space that is a salute to the Lone Star State, this is your place. The Hall of State was built by the State of Texas in 1936 for the Centennial Exposition, also known as the first world’s fair. (History buffs can read all about it on the Texas Centennial website.) Owned by the City of Dallas and managed by the Texas Historical Society, the Hall of State has hosted events honoring presidents, royalty, heads of state and other dignitaries for over 60 years.

With several rooms within the Hall of State, there are plenty of options for weddings, rehearsal dinners or other social occasions. And with a gorgeous front lawn, an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception combo is definitely possible. The largest space, The Great Hall, would make for an amazing ceremony or reception space and can tie in to any color theme. While The Great Hall alone can accommodate 300 seated with a dance floor, the entire building can hold 800 for a reception.

The Hall of State price tag is super competitive, ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 depending on the time of year and day of week. And with Food Glorious Food as the exclusive caterer, guests are sure to have an excellent meal. The only down side to the Hall of State is its location in Fair Park, which prevents the space from being rented out during the State Fair of Texas, which runs from the end of September through most of October. If you’re looking for a venue in early- to mid-Fall, this space definitely won’t work for you, and it’s just as well… Who really wants funnel cake, fried Oreos or corn dogs anywhere near your event? Oh wait… I think I might.
