One of my favorite parts of being a wedding planner is that I get to work with all different kinds of people, and I especially love those who are high school sweethearts like our next Blogging Bride Sarah and her husband Matt. There is just something so special about this sweet couple.. when you look at these pictures, you can really tell how much these two truly love each other!

August wedding at The Joule in Dallas, TX groom in grey tuxedo bride in strapless gown with short veil and all purple wedding bouquet - Photos by Sarah Kate

Couple: Sarah and Matt

Wedding date: August 23, 2014

Ceremony location: The Joule

Reception location: The Joule

Photographer: Sarah Kate

Hitched Events: How did you and Matt meet?

Sarah Moffatt: We actually met in 4th grade. He was the new kid in school and I distinctly remember him wearing a black leather jacket every day. We started dating in high school at 15 years old – our second wedding anniversary is the same day as our 10 year anniversary together. Another little fun fact: He wrote on the back of my 8th grade year book that he couldn’t wait to make me his wife someday. Swoon!

HE: Tell us about your engagement!

SM: After graduating from Texas Tech University, we had a whole summer of travel planned: go to Yellowstone, then Hawaii, then Bonnaroo in Tennessee, then move to New York City.

He had recently told me he didn’t want to get engaged any time soon because he wanted to have a stable job and be able to provide for us, which was a totally believable lie, so I wasn’t expecting him to pop the question on any of our adventures. We were in Yellowstone – one of our favorite places in the world – and he took me to the Lower Falls. He told me to stand in front of the waterfall, so he could get the settings right on his camera, something he’s done hundreds of times. I wasn’t paying attention as he found a couple to take our photo, but before they could take the shot, he asked them to wait a second so he could get a lens cover to help with the sun overexposing the photo. I was two seconds away from telling him to let it go and just let the nice people take the shot when he flipped around to face me and was on one knee with a shiny red box in his hand. I was in shock. After I said yes, I heard screaming as three people were running towards me. Still in shock, it took me several seconds to realize it was my mom and his parents, which he had flown in for the occasion.

The couple, who took photos of the entire thing, are good friends of the family to this day. They live in California and even came to our wedding in Dallas!

Check out more of their super cute engagement photos from Sarah Kate!

HE: How long was your engagement?

SM: We were engaged from May 2013 to August 2014. We wanted to keep our same anniversary date and it just so happened August 23, 2014 fell on a Saturday.

HE: What did you pick first.. the date or the venue?

SM: We picked the date first since it already held such significance.

HE: Tell us about how the planning process went for you.

SM: I’m a very organized person, so it went pretty smoothly – even planning the wedding at a distance wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. We were living in NYC and planning a wedding in Dallas. Luckily, we had a lot of great support around us, who were willing to run errands and attend meetings. Plus, we found vendors who were willing to be very flexible with our timeline and limited trips to Dallas.

HE: What was a must have for your wedding?

SM: I wanted an overflow of beautiful flowers, which I think we achieved. Flowers are such an easy was to bring a room to life, so we relied heavily on floral decorations in both the ceremony space and the reception.

HE: Sarah and Matt had some of the most GORGEOUS flowers we have ever seen! She enlisted the help of Branching Out Events to help make her vision come to life.

HE: What is your favorite memory from your wedding?

SM: Besides marrying the love of my life, probably having my mother walk me down the aisle. That was a detail I had known was going to happen since I was a little girl and it was so special to have that vision become a reality.

HE: Describe your overall experience with your wedding.

SM: The whole thing was such a unique experience and something I’ll never get to do again, so I really tried to soak it all in.

HE: If you could give one piece of advice to a couple in the process of planning their wedding, what would it be?

SM: Stay organized and surround yourself with a team you trust, from vendors to friends and family. Also remember that the team of people are the only ones who care if the flowers aren’t the right kind or the table cloths aren’t the right shade. No one else is going to notice, so when planning, be kind to that trusted team and remember they are working to make your vision come true!

Sarah, you speak very true words and we absolutely agree! It is so important to surround yourself around people you trust, and we’re so happy we got to be a part of your beautiful wedding.

Y’all have to go check out their sneak peek video of their wedding by Houston-based Monroe Wedding Videography.. both Sarah and Matt’s moms organized a surprise Flash “Mom” (yes, like a Flash Mob!) and it was one of the best things we’ve ever been a part of! It’s time for another Blogging Bride! We started this series a couple of weeks ago with our first Blogging Bride, Lindsay, and this week we’re so excited to feature Cameron!

Hitched Events The Blogging Bride series featuring Cameron and Jay

Couple: Cameron and Jay

Wedding date: May 16, 2015

Ceremony location: The Joule

Reception location: The Joule

Photographer: Joshua Aull Photography

Hitched Events: How did you and Jay meet?

Cameron Gummer: Jay and I had been getting our haircut from the same girl, Lyndsey, for close to 10 years by the time of our first date. Both Jay and I happened to be single and Lyndsey thought that we could potentially be a good match for each other. (This was actually the second time she had tried setting us up. The first time was 6 years prior, but the timing just wasn’t right.) She mentioned this to Jay and I and suggested that we all meet for Happy Hour sometime. Well, scheduling Happy Hour was taking longer than Jay wanted it to and he was getting impatient, so he asked Lyndsey for my number. Jay called me and we talked on the phone and decided to meet up in Addison, where I was living at the time. Our first date happened on March 22, 2012 and we’ve been together ever since!

HE: Tell us about your engagement!

CG: My friend, Alissa, asked me to go to an event with her at the Arboretum. She had been volunteering there and told me she could bring a guest to their “Volunteer Appreciation” party. As I was getting ready, a huge thunderstorm came through, which made me second guess on whether or not we should go. Alissa told me not to worry about it and they would just move it indoors. We got to the Arboretum and the worst of the storm was over, but it was still raining. Luckily, one of the Arboretum employees came by in a golf cart and offered to drive us to the party. As we pulled up to the building where the “party” was, I heard music and then I saw Jay. I was so confused! The first thing I thought was “What is he doing here?” Also, he was wearing a teal shirt, which is a color he never wears, so my second thought was “He never wears that color, I like it!” I didn’t make the connection of what was going on until I saw Alissa stay on the golf cart as it drove away.

Next thing I know, Jay is saying wonderful things (none of which I remember) and is down on one knee asking me to marry him. I, of course, said yes immediately! We celebrated with a glass of champagne and enjoyed listening to the musicians he had there playing my favorite songs. He then told me that he had another surprise. We drove to his parents’ house, where he had planned a surprise engagement party for us! I was just getting over the shock of seeing everyone there, then from the crowd of people I saw my Mom, Dad, brother, sister-in-law (who all I’ve in Atlanta, GA) and one of my best friends, Ashlee (who lives in Boulder, CO). He also surprised me with a photo album of when he went to Atlanta the month before (I thought he was on a trip for work) to ask my Dad to marry me 🙂 It honestly was the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!

HE: How long was your engagement?

CG: We got engaged on September 6, 2014 and married on May 16, 2015, so we were engaged for 8 months.

(HE: Please stop what you’re doing right now and go check out more of their super cute engagement photos!)

HE: What did you pick first.. the date or the venue?

CG: I really wanted to get married on New Years Eve, but unfortunately, it just did not work out. We didn’t want to rush and plan a wedding in 3 months and also did not want to wait over a year before we got married.

We started looking for venues around Dallas. We knew that we wanted to have both the ceremony and reception at the same location. We looked at 5 or 6 different venues before we went to The Joule. We then fell in love with the spaces for both the ceremony and reception. We didn’t really have a strong preference for a particular date, so we just went with what The Joule had available.

HE: Tell us about how the planning process went for you.

CG: To be perfectly honest, the planning process was very stressful at the beginning, because I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I was very unsure of where to start, but I had heard to pick the venue and dress as soon as possible. I immediately made appointments to try on dresses, and Jay and I made appointments to see venues in downtown Dallas. Once we had picked The Joule, I asked if they had any preferred vendors. They provided me with a list, which was wonderful, because that is how I found Hitched Events! I also went to a bridal show to get some names of various vendors, which was also helpful as far as giving me a list of vendors to contact. One of the hardest things to me was trying to figure out the budget. I had the overall number of what we had to spend, but I was unsure of how to divide it up in the most effective way for what we wanted to achieve. After some guidance, we figured out we could spend less in some areas that weren’t “must haves” and more in others that were more important to us.

HE: What was a must have for your wedding?

CG: The “must have” Jay and I talked about from day one was that we wanted our wedding to be a fun celebration. We wanted our guests to leave saying they had a great time, so we knew we needed to have an awesome band, open bar, and a photo booth always helps! We ended up using Love Runs Deep for our photo booth and couldn’t have been happier.. we got so many great pictures!

Funny group photo booth picture with silver background - Photo booth pictures by Love Runs DeepThe search for a band was not an easy one. I reached out to some friends who had their weddings in Dallas to get the names of the bands they worked with. As I was contacting them, each one was already booked for our date we had picked. I was starting to stress, but one of the management groups told me to check out their band Inside Out, who was available on the day of our wedding. Jay, my mom, and I went to see them and I could not get a contract signed soon enough! We immediately fell in love with their talent and energy. And they did not disappoint at the wedding. They were phenomenal! The dance floor was packed all night, and we had so many people asking us at the wedding and after who the band was, because they had such a great time.

Cameron and Jay

My other must have was a great photographer. One of my best friends got married back in 2007 and her photographer captured a candid picture of the two of us, which I have adored ever since. I wanted to find a photographer that could deliver pictures like that along with the typical more staged wedding pictures. Jay and I ultimately decided to work with Joshua Aull Photography. Josh was great to work with. He was able to get everything done when we were running behind and dealing with location changes. He captured so many amazing moments from our wedding. I love our pictures, but honestly the ones from the reception are my favorite. I can’t help but smile and laugh whenever I look through them!

HE: What is your favorite memory from your wedding?

CG: I don’t know if I can pick just one! Of course, the first has to be when Jay and I were announced husband and wife. It was so exciting finally be “official” and it was time to start celebrating! Another would have to be at the very end of the night for our send off. Jay and I were having our private last dance (which I very highly recommend) as everyone was going downstairs to wait for us. We came down the elevator and as we made our way through the rose petals, I saw a vintage Rolls Royce waiting to pick us up! I had told Jay during the planning process that I have always wanted to leave my wedding in a vintage Rolls Royce, but I couldn’t see the point of spending the money on it when we would just drive around the block, since we were staying in the hotel where the wedding/reception took place. Jay, being the absolutely amazing man the he is, planned this surprise for me to end our wedding on the most perfect note.

I also asked Jay this question, because I was curious about which moments he would pick. He said his first was when my Dad and I came up the elevator to walk down the aisle. The Joule has this amazing glass elevator that the brides come up on to walk down the aisle. It’s so unique and was one of the selling points for us when picking the location. His other moment that he loved was the alone time he and I had, while our guests were at the cocktail hour after the ceremony. It was great to have a glass (let’s be honest…bottle) of champagne, take off our shoes, and spend some time just the two of us.

HE: Describe your overall experience with your wedding.

CG: It was honestly the most fun I have ever had. I could not have asked for anything better. I always heard and was a firm believer, based on weddings that I had been in, that there is always something that goes wrong at a wedding, but I can honestly say nothing went wrong! The whole wedding was full of nothing but support, love, happiness, and people wanting to cut loose and have a good time. I feel very grateful that it just surpassed every expectation that I ever had and I’m trying to figure out how we can do it all over again!

HE: If you could give one piece of advice to a couple in the process of planning their wedding, what would it be?

CG: Take advantage of any alone moments you can spend with your new husband/wife, like first looks, during cocktail hour, last dance, etc. Your night is full of spending time with as many of your guests as possible, and it is those moments that you can steal away together that makes it so much more special 🙂

Amanda and Logan were introduced by the bride’s cousin, who knew they would be a perfect match! A Facebook introduction in late October led to them to chatting by phone for about a month, as Amanda was living in Houston at the time. The two finally met in person for the first time that Thanksgiving, when Amanda came to Dallas to visit her parents. Knowing it was a match made in heaven, Amanda moved to Dallas a month later.

How cute are their dogs Cooper and Stella?? Oh.. and Logan’s face might be familiar. Why you may ask? Well, he won the 2016 Dallas Marathon! Yes, he beat everyone and was the winner!

Amanda and Logan are planning a stylish, modern wedding at The Joule with some of our favorite vendors, including Branching Out Floral & Event Design, Splendor Films, Emerald City Band, and Dallas Wedding Music.

We’re so excited for these two!

Are we really that fortunate to have two weddings published in the same magazine?? Somebody pinch me! We are truly honored to have two weddings featured in the Spring/Summer 2016 issue of Modern Luxury Brides Dallas! Earlier this week we shared Krystal and Sean’s fabulous Four Seasons wedding and today we’re excited to share Megan and Eugene’s romantic wedding at The Joule Hotel.

There are so many things we loved about this wedding.. from the beautiful floral by Kate Foley Designs to the little traditional Russian details, a nod to Eugene’s heritage. This was such a fun wedding that we will never forget!

Yesterday, Hitched Events couple Sarah and Matt celebrated their one year anniversary. These two were married exactly 8 years (to the day!) after Matt asked Sarah to be his high school girlfriend. After being high school sweethearts, attending Texas Tech together, and  later moving to New York City together, the two tied the knot at The Joule in downtown Dallas. Check out a few highlights from their wedding, captured beautifully by photographer Sarah Kate.
